Cal Summers
Cal Summers is a British designer who makes bespoke handmade furniture and objects in which he explores the beauty of materiality and form.
Cal grew up in the Kent countryside of South East England. Coming from a family of creatives, father being a still life photographer and mother an art director, Cal was heavily influenced from an early age by the creative air that filled his family home. This would lay the foundations for his own creative ability and visual intellect.
“Ive always had a very visual mind, I remember gazing out the window on long car rides through South East England, drawn to the shapes and textures of derelict farm buildings, and looking out for old windmills on drives through the south of France.” I guess I have the eyes of my father, as our house was always filled with odd objects and artefacts which he liked to photograph”.
Pursuing his creativity, Cal studied 3D Design and Craft at the University of Brighton. Shortly after graduating in 2017, Cal was recognised by top interior designers and architects, and is being represented by designers and galleries in New York City and Montreal Canada.
Combining traditional craft techniques with modern fabrication processes CAL SUMMERS creates his pieces with an unprecedented attention to detail and an exploration into new areas of design innovation.
